About
AI-Powered Mine Shaft Detection
This web map showcases a sample of WSP's proprietary AI-driven mine shaft detection capability. The model identifies mine shafts, prospect pits, and other small mining-related openings using high-resolution elevation data. Designed for large-scale deployment, the technology has been successfully applied across the entire State of Arizona to support abandoned mine land discovery, risk assessment, and inventory programs.
The detections displayed on this map were generated automatically by WSP's AI model using publicly available USGS elevation data. Selecting a detection will display an estimated feature depth and the model's confidence that the feature is mining-related.
This demonstration provides only a small sample of the capability. WSP's scalable workflow combines geospatial analytics, machine learning, and domain expertise to rapidly screen vast areas for previously unidentified mining features.
